Jajpur: Odisha has initiated groundwork for industrial projects worth Rs 1.15 lakh crore in Jajpur district, aiming to expand its manufacturing base and create over 36,000 jobs.
The announcement comes months after the state’s flagship investment summit, with both domestic and foreign companies moving forward with commitments.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 24 projects on Thursday across Kalinganagar, Danagadi, and Badachana. These include sectors such as steel, ferro alloys, solar energy, automotive components, food processing, and warehousing.
Key among the inaugurated projects is Tata Steel’s Rs 47,599 crore expansion of its 5 MTPA integrated steel plant, expected to generate around 4,625 jobs. The project is part of the company’s ongoing capacity enhancement in the region.
Abis Exports India Pvt Ltd is investing Rs 161.5 crore in a poultry feed plant, creating around 850 jobs. JSL Group has launched a Rs 470 crore initiative focusing on petroleum and solar energy.
Groundwork Laid for Major Expansions
Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd began work on a Rs 61,769 crore expansion project, reportedly the largest of the day, with a projected employment of 14,000. Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA) also initiated a Rs 1,524 crore ferro alloys plant.
The projects also reflect foreign direct investment interest, with participation from companies based in Japan (TYK Ceramics), Germany (Almamet, Lechler), the US (Neo Industries), and the UK (Corewire Surface Technology).
Strategic Location and Policy Push
The industrial projects are concentrated in Kalinganagar, an area already positioned as a steel hub in eastern India. The state’s current focus on streamlining land, environmental, and policy clearances appears to have helped expedite project timelines following the recent Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha 2025 summit.
Officials at the event indicated that the new projects align with Odisha’s effort to boost local manufacturing and reduce dependence on external supply chains.
