Dahod: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a state-of-the-art locomotive manufacturing plant in Dahod, Gujarat, marking a significant step forward in strengthening India’s railway infrastructure.
PM Modi, joined by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, also flagged off India’s first electric locomotive produced at the new facility.
Established in line with PM Modi’s vision of strengthening connectivity and developing world-class infrastructure, the locomotive manufacturing plant is equipped to manufacture 9,000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic operations and exports.
These high-powered locomotives are expected to enhance Indian Railways’ freight capabilities and feature regenerative braking systems, promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
While addressing the people of Dahod, PM Modi said, “The projects launched today will significantly boost rail infrastructure, enhance connectivity, and drive economic growth of the region.”
In addition, PM Modi flagged off two new train services, the Veraval–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express and the Valsad–Dahod Express, as part of ongoing efforts to improve rail connectivity across the state and beyond.
During his two-day visit to Gujarat (26–27 May), the Prime Minister is also set to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate development projects worth over Rs. 24,000 crore. These include key railway infrastructure initiatives and several projects by the Government of Gujarat.
