New Delhi: Uber announced the launch of metro ticketing on its app, powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), with Delhi Metro becoming the first city to go live under this new feature. This marks Uber’s first integration with India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, aimed at creating a seamless urban mobility experience for users.
One-Stop Platform for Public Transport
With this rollout, Uber users in Delhi can now plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information directly within the app. The initiative is a major step towards transforming Uber into a comprehensive mobility platform.
Expansion Plans and Future Offerings
Uber also revealed plans to expand the metro ticketing feature to three more Indian cities by 2025. In addition, the company is preparing to launch a Business-to-Business (B2B) Logistics solution via ONDC, which will allow businesses to request on-demand delivery services from Uber’s delivery network without the need for their own fleet.
Strengthening India’s Digital Infrastructure
This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during the visit of Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi to India. The MoU outlined Uber’s commitment to supporting India’s digital public goods through collaboration with ONDC.
Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer at Uber, emphasized India’s progress in building scalable digital infrastructure and stated that integrating with ONDC aligns with Uber’s vision of becoming a one-stop solution for mobility.
Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO at ONDC, noted that Uber’s participation in the ONDC network is a significant step in expanding access to interoperable and trusted digital infrastructure across India.Â
