New Delhi: Zomato’s sustainability arm, Eternal, has rolled out a fleet of 300 electric bikes on rent for delivery partners in Delhi NCR, marking a step toward its broader plan to shift to a 100% electric vehicle (EV) fleet by 2030.
The initiative, launched on Thursday, is limited to the Delhi NCR region in its first phase but is expected to expand to other cities in the coming months. Eternal said the new rental model aims to make EVs more accessible and cost-effective for delivery partners.
The launch event was attended by senior Delhi Police officials, including Ajay Chaudhary, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic Management Division, Zone II), who emphasized the importance of private sector efforts in reducing vehicular emissions in Delhi.
Sustainability Commitments in Focus
Zomato has previously committed to achieving net zero emissions across its food ordering and delivery operations by 2033. According to the company, nearly 10% of its delivery fleet currently runs on electric vehicles. Eternal also claimed that these EVs helped avoid about 4,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in FY25, a figure the company equates to the environmental benefit of planting approximately 2.2 lakh trees. Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Eternal, said the electric bikes were developed to support both environmental goals and the economic needs of delivery partners, without elaborating on rental costs or infrastructure support.
