New Delhi: Edtech platform PhysicsWallah (PW) and Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) have entered into a partnership to offer online degree programs aimed at expanding access to formal higher education. The collaboration focuses on delivering structured, UGC-compliant courses through digital platforms, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The partnership will offer four degree programs initially, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Master of Arts in English (MA English), and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). These programs are being designed to meet regulatory standards set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The move comes at a time when both public institutions and private edtech firms are increasingly focusing on digital delivery of higher education, particularly following the disruptions caused by the pandemic. The adoption of online degree programs has also been encouraged by policy frameworks such as NEP 2020, which promotes flexibility and digital learning models.
Under this partnership, YCMOU will oversee academic approvals, regulatory compliance, and degree issuance, while PhysicsWallah will manage the technology platform, student engagement, content delivery, and doubt-clearing sessions. The courses will follow the Four-Quadrant Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) model as prescribed by the UGC, incorporating self-paced learning, live sessions, assessments, and learner support.
Speaking about the partnership, Aditya Agarwal, Chief Business Officer – New Initiatives at PhysicsWallah, said the collaboration aims to create scalable and digitally accessible pathways for learners. He noted the importance of ensuring that online programs remain compliant with regulatory frameworks while meeting industry expectations.
From YCMOU’s side, Professor (Dr.) Sanjeev Sonawane highlighted the need to maintain academic rigour and regulatory alignment while enhancing digital education delivery.
