Lalitpur:Â Hindustan Power has started construction of a 435 megawatt peak (MWp) solar power project in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh. The project, awarded by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) in April 2025 through a competitive bidding process, is expected to supply renewable electricity to the state grid for the next 25 years.
The development is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader push to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix, in line with India’s national clean energy targets.
The new solar facility is designed to contribute significantly to Uttar Pradesh’s energy requirements, reducing reliance on fossil fuels while supporting the state’s clean energy transition. The project’s capacity of 435 MWp is expected to generate enough electricity to supply power to thousands of homes once operational.
While the company, Hindustan Power, has not disclosed the total investment in the project, the solar installation is expected to be one of the larger grid-connected renewable power plants in the region. Power generated from the facility will be supplied directly to UPPCL under a long-term power purchase agreement.
Apart from contributing to renewable energy generation, the project is expected to create temporary employment opportunities during the construction phase and limited long-term roles once operational. The company has stated that the project will aim to engage local manpower where possible, though specific details about job numbers or local community initiatives have not been provided.
Experts note that large-scale solar projects like this one can play a role in rural development by boosting local economies, though the long-term economic benefits often depend on the scale of ongoing operations and grid connectivity.
