Kolkata: The West Bengal Finance Department has set a cap on the maximum expenditure that can be incurred by different departments for their projects.
Each department can spend up to this limit without taking any approval from the Finance Department. The approval of the Principal Secretary of the respective department will be sufficient.
However, in case the limit is crossed, the respective departments have to take special approvals from the Finance Department.
For PWD, Irrigation, PHE, Health, Panchayat & Rural Development and Urban Development departments, the maximum expenditure limit for a project has been set at Rs 3 crore
For Sundarban, West Zone and North Bengal Development departments, this cap has been set at Rs 1 crore.
For some departments including Housing, the limit has been set at Rs 75 lakhs. For the remaining departments, the limit is at Rs 50 lakhs.
This revision was last done in 2023 when the limits were set between Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 5 crore.
All departments can always take special approvals from the Finance Department in specific cases. Hopefully, this entire setup will further accelerate the process.
