Lucknow: In a major push for urban development in western Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the proposal to develop Muzaffarnagar as a Smart City.Â
The decision was taken during a divisional review meeting in Saharanpur, following a proposal by Kapil Dev Aggarwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge).Â
Comprehensive Urban Planning Ahead
CM Yogi has directed officials to begin work on a detailed master plan. Key features will include:
- A city-wide drainage system
- Underground power cabling
- A new state-of-the-art bus terminal
- Widening of arterial roads
- Development of a multi-layer commercial complex
These infrastructure upgrades aim to modernize the city while improving traffic, utilities, and public services.
Addressing Urban Growth
Aggarwal highlighted that Muzaffarnagar’s population has now crossed 6 lakh, making urban upgrades essential. He emphasized the need for a new bus stand along NH-58 to ease congestion and proposed widening Shamli Road to support smoother vehicle movement.
Key Benefits of Smart City Status
The Smart City project is expected to bring multiple long-term benefits:
- Improved transportation and reduced traffic congestion
- Reliable power and water supply
- Modern waste management systems
- Job creation in construction and services
