New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed senior IAS Rajeev Verma as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi.
A 1992-batch officer from the AGMUT cadre, Verma will take charge on October 1, 2025, succeeding IAS Dharmendra, a 1989-batch IAS officer, who is set to retire at the end of this month.
Verma brings more than 30 years of administrative experience, having served in key positions at both the state and central levels. He has previously worked as Chief Secretary of Puducherry and Chandigarh, and most recently served as Advisor to the Administrator of Chandigarh. In Delhi, he held crucial roles, including Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Finance and Revenue from 2018 to 2022, as well as Transport Commissioner.
Verma’s career also includes important stints at the Centre, where he worked with the Defence, Power, and Health Ministries. From 2013 to 2017, he was Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence. Earlier, he headed the Delhi Transport Corporation as its Chairman and Managing Director and held senior positions in the Delhi Development Authority as Principal Commissioner of Housing and Urban Affairs. He also served in various administrative capacities in Goa and Delhi NCR between 2000 and 2011.
Verma’s academic background complements his professional journey. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from MANIT, a Master’s in Urban Design from the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi, and an M.Tech. from IIT. His expertise in planning and infrastructure is expected to aid the Delhi government in addressing its complex urban challenges.
