Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the initiative ensures that “teachers and their families will no longer face financial difficulties in the event of illness or emergency.” Describing the move as historic, he called it “a token of the government’s gratitude for teachers’ contribution.” Departments of Basic, Secondary, and Higher Education have been tasked with completing all formalities to roll out the facility within a fixed timeframe.
During the announcement, Adityanath also touched upon reforms in the education system. He recalled how “before 2017, the secondary education council had become a hub of cheating,” with students from other states passing exams through unfair means.
Highlighting the changes, he said examinations are now held transparently under CCTV surveillance and results for 56 lakh students are declared within a month.
Emphasising the value of educators, Adityanath stated that teachers “hold higher importance than bureaucrats or politicians as they shape the nation’s foundation.”
He acknowledged resistance to programmes like school mergers and Bal Vatika, but praised principals and teachers who “set examples with hard work and innovation.” Under the New Education Policy, more than 5,000 Bal Vatikas have been launched this year, enrolling over 25,000 children aged three to six years.
The announcement was made during a state-level Teacher Award ceremony where 81 teachers – including 66 from basic education and 15 from secondary education – were honoured. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also released the Udgam digital platform and inaugurated smart classes in 1,236 government secondary model schools.
In addition, he announced the formation of a high-level committee to review allowance increases for shiksha mitras and instructors. A decision, he said, would follow after the panel submits its report.
