Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Government has named senior IAS G. Sai Prasad (1991 batch) as the next Chief Secretary of the state. He will formally assume the post on March 1, 2026.Â
The decision follows a three-month extension granted to the current Chief Secretary, IAS K. Vijayanand (1992 batch), whose original retirement date was November 30, 2025. The extension, approved under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, will keep him in office until February 28, 2026.
G. Sai Prasad currently holds the position of Special Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department, and serves as Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. His record of handling major portfolios, including water management, infrastructure, power, land administration, and public governance, earned him wide recognition inside government circles.
An engineer by training (M.Tech), Sai Prasad has served over three decades in several key roles: Collector of Chittoor; Commissioner of Guntur Municipal Corporation; joint leadership posts in power utilities such as APTRANSCO and distribution companies (EPDPCL, APCPDCL); Vice-Chair of the Andhra Pradesh Housing Board; and Principal or Special Secretary in departments like Energy, Land Administration, and Water Resources.Â
Sai Prasad’s official retirement date is December 31, 2026, a timeline that would allow him roughly ten months in office as Chief Secretary. The government appears intent on leveraging his technical expertise and long administrative experience for the accelerated delivery of its development agenda.
