New Delhi: Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada on Friday informed the Rajya Sabha that India’s national AI compute capacity has now been operationalised with 38,231 GPUs onboarded from 14 empanelled service providers under the IndiaAI Compute Capacity framework.
The facility provides subsidised cloud-based GPU access to eligible users, with the average usage rate fixed at around Rs 65 per hour, barring certain high-end GPUs.
Prasada said the framework aims to accelerate AI research, innovation and enterprise adoption by enabling affordable access to high-performance compute infrastructure.
He added that the Centre is committed to ensuring the wide availability of computing power as India scales up AI-driven initiatives across sectors.
The Minister also said that AI Kosh, the national repository for AI resources, is offering seamless access to AI-ready datasets, models, computational tools and secure permission-based access mechanisms.
As of now, 251 AI models and more than 27 development toolkits specific to India are available on the platform.
Highlighting workforce development under the IndiaAI FutureSkill programme, Prasada informed the House that 27 IndiaAI Data and AI Labs have already been established in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
In addition, 174 ITIs and polytechnics across 27 states and UTs have been approved for setting up new IndiaAI Data and AI Labs to strengthen AI skilling at the grassroots level.
