New Delhi: IAS Vishal Gupta (2012 batch), belonging to the Gujarat cadre, has been re-designated as Private Secretary at the Director level to Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the Ministry of Culture.Â
The move marks an elevation in his role within the central government.
The redesignation was approved by the competent authority and notified through an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). As per the order, the post of Private Secretary at the Deputy Secretary level, which Vishal Gupta was holding, has been upgraded and redesignated as a Director-level position for the same Minister.
According to the DoPT notification, the upgraded post will take effect from the date Vishal Gupta assumes charge in the new capacity. The tenure of the post will remain valid up to June 5, 2030. However, the order clearly states that the appointment is subject to specific conditions. The tenure will be co-terminus with the Minister or will end if Gupta ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Minister, or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs earlier.
During his career, Gupta has handled a range of administrative assignments at the state level before moving to the Centre. He began his central deputation on June 6, 2025, and has since been serving as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism.
