New Delhi: The Delhi government has cleared a major road infrastructure project in South Delhi with the approval of a six-lane double-decker flyover along the Mehrauli–Badarpur (MB) Road, announced Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The Expenditure Finance Committee has sanctioned the project at an estimated cost of Rs 1,471.14 crore, with completion targeted for December 2027. The integrated elevated corridor, spanning nearly five kilometres, will be executed in two phases.
The first phase will cover a 2.42-km stretch from Saket G-Block to Sangam Vihar, while the second phase will extend about 2.48 km from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will implement the project, which features a double-decker design. The upper deck will accommodate a metro corridor, while the lower deck will comprise a six-lane elevated road. The configuration is aimed at optimising limited urban space while increasing traffic capacity along one of South Delhi’s busiest corridors.
In addition, two vehicular underpasses will be built at Saket G-Block and along the BRT corridor to ease congestion in areas such as Saket, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur and Sangam Vihar.
As part of the alignment falls within the Tughlaqabad Fort zone, the proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Culture for statutory approvals. The government expects the project to reduce congestion on MB Road, improve average vehicle speeds and cut travel time for commuters.
