Kolkata: The Election Commission has decided to send 10 IAS officers, one Indian Defence Accounts Service officer and one Indian Statistical Service officer to 10 districts of Bengal to monitor the SIR process as special roll observers.
These observers will be sent to Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Hooghly, Nadia, South and North Dinajpur, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad.
The EC has deputed two special roll observers for North 24 Parganas.
The officials would be the eyes and ears of the EC in districts once the BLAs are allowed inside the hearing centres.
The Supreme Court has allowed BLAs of political parties to accompany voters during the hearings.
EC has deputed Harsh Mangla, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, for Purba Medinipur; Nand Kumarum, CEO – NeGD, Ministry of Electronics and IT, for Hooghly and P Bala Kiran, Joint Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training, for Nadia.
Raghav Langer, Secretary, National Medical Commission, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, will monitor the process in South Dinajpur, while V Kiran Goyal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, will monitor North Dinajpur.
Shashank Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Power, will monitor Paschim Bardhaman, Venkatesapathy S, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Port, Shipping, Waterways, will monitor Birbhum and Devesh Deval, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processimg will monitor Paschim Medinipur.
Gaya Prasad, an Indian Statistical Service officer and Joint Secretary, Union Home Ministry, will monitor Murshidabad.
Nistha Upadhyay, an Indian Defence Accounts Service officer and Additional CEO, GeM, in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, will be attached to the Bengal chief electoral officer’s office.
Prasanna R, Joint Secretary, Union Home Ministry and Ravi Shankar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, will be sent to North 24 Parganas as special roll observers.
