Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s budget for 2026-27 has allocated maximum funds for solid waste management and water supply.
The estimate for the year 2026-27 for solid waste management is Rs 744.47 crore, while that for water supply is Rs 465.79 crore. Water produced at the 10 million gallons a day (MGD) capacity plant will serve parts of Garia and Tollygunge.
The KMC is also augmenting the capacity of the water treatment plant in Dhapa. This will increase it to 30 MGD capacity by another 20 MGD.
Another 124 km of new pipeline network is being laid to supply the water produced in these two plants. About 18.25 lakh tonnes of waste were disposed of in the Dhapa landfill site last year.
