New Delhi, May 22 (APAC Media): India and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation against terrorism, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.Â
Both sides strongly condemned terrorism in all forms, including cross-border terrorism, and reiterated their policy of zero tolerance towards terror activities. They also stressed that terrorism should not be linked to any religion, nationality, civilisation, or ethnic group.
The discussions took place during the 5th meeting of the India-Egypt Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism, held in New Delhi.
During the meeting, both countries strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that took place in April last year, as well as the terror incident near Red Fort in New Delhi in November last year.Â
They emphasised that those involved in terrorism, including supporters and financiers, must be held accountable and brought to justice.Â
Egypt expressed solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism and reaffirmed support for India’s efforts to protect national security and stability.
The two sides agreed that tackling terrorism requires sustained and coordinated global action. In this context, they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, BRICS, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and other international forums.
India and Egypt also exchanged views on improving the effectiveness of the GCTF and reiterated support for the early adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.
The discussions also covered regional and global terror threats, with both countries calling for stronger action against UN-designated terrorists, terror groups, their affiliates, sponsors, financiers, and proxy organisations.
Officials from both sides reviewed several traditional and emerging security challenges, including terrorist recruitment, misuse of technology by terror organisations and terror financing networks.Â
India and Egypt jointly expressed concern over the growing use of drones, unmanned aerial vehicles and artificial intelligence for terrorist activities.Â
India and Egypt further discussed ways to deepen cooperation in areas such as cybersecurity, judicial cooperation, intelligence sharing, training, capacity building and exchange of best practices through both bilateral and multilateral engagement.
The next meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism will be held in Egypt.Â
