Bhubaneswar, June 8 (APAC Media): Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati inaugurated a 485 kWp rooftop solar power plant at Lok Bhavan.
The project marks another step in the state’s push towards clean energy and sustainable infrastructure.
The project, executed by NBCC (India) Limited, has increased Lok Bhavan’s total solar capacity to 635 kW.
NBCC Chairman and Managing Director K.P. Mahadevaswamy was among the senior officials present at the inauguration.
The newly installed solar facilities are spread across multiple buildings within the campus.

The Abhishek Banquet Hall hosts the largest installation with 191 kWp, followed by:
- Campus Garage – 85 kWp
- Administrative Building – 64 kWp
- Governor’s House – 54 kWp
- Energy Park – 47 kWp
- Police ADC Residence – 20 kWp
- Naval ADC Residence – 14 kWp
- Wellness Centre – 10 kWp
The additional capacity is expected to generate substantial clean energy annually.
It will help reduce dependence on conventional power and lower the campus’s carbon footprint.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kambhampati highlighted the growing importance of renewable energy amid global energy challenges and rising fuel prices.
He stressed the need to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and promote clean energy alternatives.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent appeals, the Governor encouraged citizens to adopt electric vehicles and reduce the use of petrol and diesel.
He noted that as EV adoption increases, the rising demand for electricity must be met through sustainable sources such as solar energy.
The Governor highlighted schemes such as PM Surya Ghar and Odisha government subsidies, which are making rooftop solar systems more affordable.
He also pointed to E20 and E85 ethanol blending and the rise of flex-fuel vehicles to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Over the past year, Lok Bhavan has strengthened its green initiatives. One notable step has been the conversion of the Governor’s official motorcade to electric vehicles.
The new solar plant marks another milestone in Odisha’s clean energy journey and highlights the growing focus on sustainable infrastructure.
