New Delhi, July 9 (APAC Media): Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has appointed Shailesh Vagerwal as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD).
He assumed charge on July 9, 2026.
The appointment follows an order issued by the Ministry of Defence on June 18, 2026. It was announced through a regulatory filing with the NSE and BSE.
The company said Vagerwal has no personal or professional ties with any member of the BDL Board. It also confirmed that he is eligible to hold the post under applicable SEBI regulations.

Who Is Shailesh Vagerwal?
Shailesh Vagerwal is a senior Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) officer with nearly 30 years of experience in defence manufacturing.
Before joining Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) as CMD, he served as Chief General Manager at Ordnance Factory Khamaria, Jabalpur. The facility is a key unit of Munitions India Limited.
During his career, he has worked at Ordnance Factory Dum Dum, Ordnance Factory Itarsi, Ordnance Factory Khamaria, and the Munitions India Limited Corporate Office in Pune.
He has experience in ammunition and explosives manufacturing, strategic planning, research and development, quality management, project execution, administration, and defence production.
Educational Qualifications
Shailesh Vagerwal has a strong academic background in engineering and defence technology.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur.
He also earned a Master of Science in Explosive Ordnance Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom.
His technical education, combined with nearly three decades of industry experience, has built his expertise in defence production and strategic manufacturing.
