‘AI becomes a cyber risk when adopted without adequate governance’: Vikas Somani, Vice President, Sales, Eventus Security

Summarize with:

Eventus Platform claims to be a next-generation cybersecurity platform with a unified SIEM, SOAR, Rule Engine and Threat Intelligence capabilities. In an exclusive conversation, Vikas Somani, Vice President, Sales, Eventus Security informs Rajneesh De, Group Editor, APAC Media & CXO Media that Eventus’ objective is not to send more alerts to customers, but to provide fewer, higher-quality and better-contextualised incidents, along with clear guidance on what needs to be done next.

What solutions and services are currently available in the Eventus Security portfolio?

At Eventus Security, our portfolio is built around two fundamental objectives. First, to strengthen cyber resilience and second objective is enabling organizations to detect, respond to, and contain threats faster and more effectively.

Our managed security operations portfolio includes SIEM and SOAR, SOC-as-a-Service, Managed XDR, security monitoring, threat hunting and detection engineering. These services are delivered through our 24×7 Cyber Defense Centers and supported by our proprietary SecOps platform.

We also provide cyber threat intelligence, digital forensics and incident response, ransomware response. Broader cyber resilience services include vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, red teaming, breach and attack simulation, vulnerability management, tabletop exercises, application security, DevSecOps and cloud security assessments. As a CERT-In empaneled organisation, we also undertake relevant security audits and compliance-focused assessments.

What is important is that these capabilities do not operate in isolation. We help customers across the full security lifecycle, from identifying vulnerabilities and understanding exposure to detecting attacks, responding to incidents and improving recovery readiness. Depending on the customer’s maturity, internal capabilities and business requirements, our services can be delivered through fully managed, co-managed or project-based models and it is relevant across as organisations are at very different stages of their cybersecurity journey.

How would you assess the impact of the SOC Eventus built and its SOC-as-a-Service offering?

The most important impact of our SOC-as-a-Service offer is that it gives organisations access to mature, round-the-clock security operations without requiring them to build every capability internally.

Building an effective SOC is not simply about acquiring a SIEM or putting analysts in a room. It requires the right technology architecture, skilled people, threat intelligence, well-developed detection use cases, clearly defined response processes and continuous optimisation. Developing all of this in-house can take considerable time and investment, and the cybersecurity skills shortage makes it even more challenging.

Eventus Platform is a next-generation cybersecurity platform with a unified SIEM, SOAR, Rule Engine and Threat Intelligence capabilities. At its core, the platform functions as a unified security data hub, seamlessly ingesting telemetry from SaaS applications and on-premise environments alike.

AI-driven Rule Engine sits at the heart of the detection pipeline, correlating and aggregating incoming data to surface only the highest fidelity alerts. What sets it apart is how the rules themselves are created: leveraging an LLM to continuously generate, refine, and expand detection rulesets, turning threat knowledge into actionable detection logic at a speed and scale no human team can match.

An AI-native SOAR platform takes it further by autonomously enriching, orchestrating, and streamlining investigation workflows. All of this is powered by continuously updated threat intelligence and delivered through persona-based dashboards built for every stakeholder in the SOC. Eventus Platform is not just a SIEM. It is the intelligence layer your security operations have been waiting for.

For Indian enterprises, this model is particularly valuable because it combines access to specialist expertise with predictable operating costs, faster implementation and the ability to scale as their digital environment grows.

What are the strategic advantages of having an XDR-powered SOC?

Most cyberattacks do not remain confined to one control point. An attack may begin with a phishing email, move to a compromised identity, affect an endpoint and then progress laterally across the network or cloud environment. If each security product is viewed separately, the organisation may see several low-priority alerts without recognising the complete attack chain.

An XDR-powered SOC brings together signals from endpoints, identities, email, networks, cloud workloads and applications. It correlates these signals to give analysts a more complete view of what is happening and helps them distinguish isolated events from a coordinated attack.

This delivers several strategic advantages. It reduces alert noise, improves the accuracy of detection and enables incidents to be prioritised according to actual risk. Analysts can investigate faster because the relevant context is already connected. Validated threats can also be contained more quickly through automated or analyst-approved response actions.

However, XDR should not be viewed as a technology only solution. Its effectiveness depends on the quality of telemetry, integrations, detection engineering, threat intelligence and the team operating it. A platform can generate information, but experienced analysts are still required to interpret complex behaviour, understand business impact and make responsible response decisions.

At Eventus, our focus is on operationalising XDR. We combine the technology with continuous monitoring, use-case development, automation, threat hunting and human expertise to translate security signals into measurable outcomes.

How does Eventus uniquely differentiate itself from other MSPs regarding the detection of advanced cybersecurity threats?

Our differentiation comes from the way we combine technology, automation, threat intelligence and human expertise rather than relying on any one element in isolation.

Detection is the heartbeat of any SIEM platform and yet, it remains the weakest link in most deployments. Static rule engines struggle to keep pace with an ever-evolving threat landscape, forcing security teams into a cycle of manual tuning, missed detections, and alert fatigue. By augmenting the detection engine with AI, we move beyond rigid logic into adaptive, intelligent threat detection, one that learns, evolves, and delivers measurably better outcomes.

We have created a differentiation for ourselves by using AI in SOC operations. The visible difference is as follows:

  1. 90% reduction in rule development time: Detection rules that previously required up to 7 days of specialist effort are now generated in under 30 minutes. What once demanded deep familiarity with log structures, field names, and SIEM query syntax is handled end-to-end by the AI.
  2. Elimination of manual overhead: Analysts no longer need to manually review logs to understand what sources can produce. It is handled automatically, removing the most time-consuming part of the rule-writing process entirely.
  3. Immediate coverage for new log sources: Newly onboarded sources are catalogued, enriched, and ready for rule generation without analyst intervention. Coverage gaps that typically persist for weeks after onboarding are closed before they become a risk.
  4. Continuous rule refinement: The system doesn’t stop at generation. Deployed rules are monitored for performance in production factoring alert volumes, false positive rates, and detection drift. The underperforming rules are automatically flagged for refinement, keeping the rule library sharp over time.

Our approach is technology-agnostic. Most enterprises already have investments across multiple security vendors. We integrate with the customer’s existing environment wherever it makes operational and commercial sense, instead of requiring a complete replacement of the security stack. Our platform currently supports more than 120 technology integrations.

Second, we build intelligence-led and customer-specific detection. Generic correlation rules are rarely sufficient for identifying advanced threats. Our teams continuously develop and tune use cases based on changing adversary tactics, sector-specific risks, the customer’s technology environment and the criticality of its assets.

Finally, we look beyond individual alerts. Advanced attacks often involve identity misuse, lateral movement, persistence and activity spread across different security layers. Our analysts correlate these signals to identify the wider attack story and assess its potential business impact.

Our objective is not to send more alerts to customers. It is to provide fewer, higher-quality and better-contextualised incidents, along with clear guidance on what needs to be done next.

What are the key pillars of Eventus’ GTM strategy?

Our go-to-market strategy is built around solving clearly defined security problems rather than approaching customers with isolated products.

The first pillar is market and vertical focus. We work closely with sectors where cybersecurity has a direct bearing on operational continuity, customer trust and regulatory compliance. These include BFSI, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, retail, government and other digitally intensive industries.

The second is regional expansion. India remains an important market for us, and we are also strengthening our presence across the Middle East and Southeast Asia. While cyber threats are global, business priorities, regulations and buying behaviour vary considerably by market. Local understanding and delivery capabilities are therefore essential.

The third pillar is partner-led growth. Technology vendors, channel partners, cloud providers, system integrators and advisory firms are important to our ability to reach customers and deliver integrated outcomes at scale.

The fourth is an outcome-led portfolio. Customers are not looking for another dashboard or security tool. They want faster detection, more effective response, lower operational complexity, stronger resilience and better returns from their existing investments.

The fifth pillar is trust. In cybersecurity, credibility is built over time through customer outcomes, independent reviews, industry recognition, research and consistent engagement with the security community.

Our model is consultative. We begin by understanding the customer’s risks, maturity and existing environment, and then recommend an operating model that is appropriate for the organisation rather than selling the same solution to everyone.

How is the Eventus Platform leveraging the power of GenAI, and when can AI become a cyber risk?

We see GenAI primarily as a force multiplier for security teams. It can help analysts work faster and make better use of the large volumes of security data available to them, but it should not replace human judgement or accountability.

Within security operations, GenAI can assist with summarising complex incidents, enriching investigations with relevant context, enabling natural-language queries and recommending investigation steps. It can also support report preparation, executive summaries, detection engineering and the development of security content. These capabilities reduce repetitive work and allow analysts to focus on threat analysis and decisions that require experience and business understanding.

At the same time, AI becomes a cyber risk when it is adopted without adequate governance. Sensitive organisational data may be exposed if employees enter it into uncontrolled public models. AI-generated conclusions can be inaccurate, incomplete or misleading. Models and AI agents may also be targeted through prompt injection, manipulated inputs or poisoned data. The risk becomes greater when an AI system is given excessive permissions and allowed to take actions without sufficient oversight.

Threat actors are also using AI to scale phishing, impersonation, social engineering and other attacks. This reduces the effort required to create convincing and highly personalised campaigns.

Our position is that AI must be secure by design. Data protection, access controls, auditability, model validation and human approval for high-impact actions need to be built into the operating model. AI should strengthen the analyst, not become an unmonitored decision-maker.

What traction has Eventus seen across different verticals, and what are the common use cases?

We have seen strong demand across sectors such as banking and financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, technology services, retail, government and other large enterprises. Although the threat landscape is shared, the priorities and use cases vary considerably across these industries.

In BFSI, customers typically focus on continuous monitoring, regulatory readiness, identity-related threats, data protection and rapid incident response. Manufacturing organisations are particularly concerned about operational continuity, ransomware and the growing interconnection between IT, cloud and operational environments. Healthcare and pharmaceutical organisations prioritise sensitive data protection, availability of critical systems and resilience against ransomware. Technology and digital businesses require visibility across cloud workloads, applications, identities and rapidly changing development environments.

A common use case is establishing 24×7 security monitoring without having to build a complete SOC internally. We also work with organisations that already have a SOC but need to improve its detection quality, automate repetitive processes or address gaps in skills and coverage.

Other recurring requirements include consolidating alerts from fragmented tools, managing XDR and SIEM environments, detecting ransomware and identity compromise, strengthening cloud security, conducting VAPT and red-team exercises, and responding to active incidents.

Across these verticals, customers increasingly want security partners to understand their business context. A technically severe alert is not always the organisation’s most important risk. Effective security operations must consider the asset involved, the potential business impact, and how quickly the situation could escalate.

What are Eventus’ goals and aspirations for continued growth and impact in the cybersecurity industry?

Our aspiration is to build Eventus into a globally respected, India-origin cybersecurity services and technology company.

Hyper Growth is certainly part of that journey, but our focus is not only on adding customers or entering new markets. We want to create a stronger name for Eventus trusted by Customers and partners.

India will continue to be central to our strategy. The country has a large and rapidly digitising economy, a strong technology ecosystem and growing demand for advanced cybersecurity capabilities. At the same time, we intend to deepen our presence across the Middle East, Southeast Asia and North America through local teams, Cyber Defense capabilities and strategic partnerships.

We will continue investing in our AI-native security operations platform, automation, threat intelligence, detection engineering and incident-response capabilities. Cyber resilience, application security and cloud security will also remain important areas of development as enterprise attack surfaces continue to expand.

Talent is another major priority. Technology can improve scale and speed, but cybersecurity ultimately depends on skilled people who can understand adversary behaviour, make sound decisions and respond effectively under pressure.

Our longer-term ambition is to help close the gap between the security capabilities organisations need and the resources they can realistically build internally. We want Eventus to be recognised not only for the scale of its operations, but for the trust it earns and the difference it makes to customer resilience.
