New Delhi, August 17 (APAC Media): The National Testing Agency (NTA) will re-conduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for English, Commerce, and Sociology after a committee found multiple errors in the question papers.
The announcement came on Sunday after NTA released the long-awaited provisional answer keys for the UGC-NET June session, Joint-CSIR-NET, and ICAR AIEEA (PG) examinations. In a separate notice issued later in the evening, the agency said the three subjects would be re-examined in September.
Candidates who appeared for English, Commerce, and Sociology will not have to pay any additional examination fee. Details regarding examination cities, centres, and admit cards will be announced separately.
Committee Flags Factual, Typographical, and Translation Errors
According to the NTA, the committee identified factual, typographical, and translation-related errors in the three question papers. These included misspelled names of prominent scholars, incorrect or garbled book titles, flawed wording of questions, grammatical mistakes, gender and number agreement errors, punctuation issues, and the use of non-standard terms for established concepts.
The committee also found that a significant number of questions had been repeated from previous examinations.
It recommended a fresh examination, stating that the scale of the defects could not be adequately addressed merely by dropping problematic questions during the answer key challenge process. The re-test, NTA said, was necessary to ensure a fair and error-free examination.
Results for Remaining 84 Subjects to Continue as Scheduled
NTA clarified that the re-examination would not delay the result process for the remaining 84 subjects, for which the answer key challenge process has already begun. Results, JRF seat allocation, and the issuance of e-certificates for Assistant Professor and PhD eligibility will continue as scheduled.
For the three re-conducted subjects, Assistant Professor eligibility will be determined based on 6% of candidates appearing in either the June examination or the re-examination, whichever number is higher. JRF, Assistant Professor, and PhD eligibility will be allocated subject-wise according to the UGC-NET Information Bulletin.
