Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently launched 100 electric buses as part of the Srinagar Electric Bus Project and initiated a fleet of 75 E-buses from the Nishat Bus Terminal.
These E-buses are scheduled to operate on 15 intra-city routes and two inter-city routes, covering a minimum distance of 200 km daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
During his speech, Sinha extended his congratulations to the Srinagar Smart City Limited and the residents of the city and its neighbouring districts.
He emphasised their commitment to prioritising “smart mobility” in order to create an ecologically balanced transportation system.
Sinha highlighted that the addition of 100 E-buses is a significant step towards realising the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for achieving carbon neutrality.
The Srinagar Smart City Limited has been actively working to turn the “modal shift” concept into reality, employing an integrated approach to offer seamless transportation services to the public, he added.
These E-buses come equipped with universal access, an HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) system, on-board vehicle tracking, CCTV surveillance, and an emergency stop feature.
To enhance passenger convenience, a dedicated mobile app and online ticket payment platform have been developed. All the buses are integrated into the Srinagar Smart City’s command and control centre.
Additionally, a bus depot is being established at Pantha Chowk, and charging sub-stations have been set up to ensure the smooth operation of the E-buses.
