Bhopal: In a significant development, senior IAS officer Veera Rana, from the 1988 batch, has been appointed the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh as an additional charge.
Rana, the second woman IAS officer to hold this position in the state after the late Nirmala Buch, is set to retire in March 2024, leaving her with a four-month tenure, unless an extension is granted.
Notably, Rana’s appointment follows the retirement of former Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains on the same day, who had previously been granted two six-month extensions. This marks a unique occurrence in Madhya Pradesh, where different Chief Secretaries served on voting day and counting day.
As per the General Administration Department (GAD) order, Rana will hold additional charge as Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary until further notice following Bains’ retirement.
Apart from her new role, Rana currently serves as the chairman of the MP Board of Secondary Education and as the commissioner of state agriculture production.
