New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative in a bid to optimise the Electronic Toll Collection system and streamline traffic flow at Toll Plazas. The primary objective is to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a specific vehicle.
NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process for their latest FASTag, aligning with RBI guidelines. FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC will be deactivated or blacklisted by banks after January 31, 2024.
To avoid disruptions, users must ensure the completion of KYC for their latest FASTag and adhere to the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy, discarding any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.
Only the latest FASTag account will remain active, as previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024. For assistance or inquiries, FASTag users can contact the nearest toll plaza or the toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks.
This initiative follows recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and the issuance of FASTags without proper KYC, violating RBI mandates. Additionally, instances of deliberately not affixing FASTags to the vehicle windscreen have resulted in unnecessary delays at toll plazas, causing inconvenience to fellow National Highway users.
With a penetration rate of approximately 98 percent and over 8 crore users, FASTag has significantly transformed the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country.
