Chandigarh: BKU (Ugrahan) State President Joginder Singh Ugrahan has declared a Rail Roko protest to be held across Punjab from 12 noon to 4 pm on February 15. This move comes in response to alleged police and government mistreatment of farmers en route to Delhi.
“Rail Roko” is a form of protest where demonstrators obstruct railway tracks, preventing trains from operating as usual. The purpose of “Rail Roko” is to disrupt transportation networks and thereby bring attention to the protesters’ cause, often causing inconvenience to commuters and economic losses to railway authorities.
Incidents of tension have escalated near the Shambhu Border as farmers encountered barricades, prompting the police to use tear gas shells. Authorities have cautioned individuals to steer clear of the barricades.
The Delhi Police have enforced Section 144 to prevent large gatherings and entry of tractor trolleys. The ongoing protest has resulted in traffic congestion at the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, prompting heightened security measures.
At the Singhu Border in Delhi, where the protest is active, Rapid Action Force personnel, police, and Riot Control Vehicles have been deployed to manage the situation.
