Chandigarh: Nayab Singh saini has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of Haryana. This comes hours after former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar resigned along with his Cabinet.
Saini, hails from Kurukshetra and represents the OBC community. He has previously served as the Haryana BJP state president since October of last year. Saini was appointed the leader of the BJP’s legislature party following Khattar’s resignation.
Khattar, submitted his resignation on March 12 to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, along with his Cabinet. It was speculated that this move came in the wake of a split within the ruling alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) over failed negotiations regarding seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Central party observers National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and junior Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda were dispatched to oversee the proceedings and ensure a smooth transition.
