New Delhi: The PM Surya Ghar initiative has mandated that government offices in India achieve 100% solarization by 2025. The central ministries will nominate Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) with experience deploying renewable energy technologies to assist them in prioritizing the deployment of rooftop solar on their assets.
Following the mandate, NHPC Limited and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) have inked a deal to install rooftop solar in government buildings. NHPC is one of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana’s Scheme Implementation Partners (SIPs). The following public sector undertakings (PSUs) have been assigned the responsibility of SIPs: NTPC, SJVN, Power Grid Corporation, THDC, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), NEEPCO, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), REMC Limited, and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN).
According to a report, the govt. has issued an order to all Central ministries, mandating the saturation of rooftop solar panels in all government buildings. The project will be implemented under the administrative supervision of the Centre, state, and Union Territories. However, the ministries will prioritize the installation of rooftop solar systems through either the CAPEX or RESCO model.
