New Delhi: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to develop a roadmap for transforming its townships and offices into Net Zero Establishments by FY 2025-26. In addition, the MoU focuses on benchmarking, implementation, and certification, as well as scaling up initiatives at the national level.
In the past, NTPC has proactively addressed climate change issues. It is the first energy company globally to declare its Energy Compact Goals as part of the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy. In 2022, it also collaborated with NITI Aayog to design a net zero GHG emissions roadmap in line with the Panchamrit goals of the Government of India. The company is also working towards making its townships and offices net zero in water usage and waste generation. This partnership with USAID is the next step in NTPC’s journey towards sustainability.
Ravindra Kumar, Director (Operations), NTPC, and other senior officials from both organizations attended the MoU signing ceremony. The agreement was signed between Dr. Vijay Prakash, Executive Director (SSEA and Environmental Engineering) of NTPC, and Aaron Schubert, Deputy Mission Director (A) of USAID (India and Bhutan).
