Gurugram: Ashish Khanna from India has been elected as the new Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) during its 7th Assembly. Khanna will take over from Ajay Mathur, whose term ends in March 2025.
The ISA, which includes 120 countries, works to expand global solar energy use, especially in developing nations. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, noted that the ISA plays a key role in helping Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) access solar power. Under Mathur’s leadership, ISA has completed 21 out of 27 planned solar projects, a milestone Joshi highlighted as a significant step forward.
Khanna’s election followed a competitive selection process with candidates from India, Ghana, and Ethiopia. In his new role, he emphasized a shift toward practical solutions, noting that many countries know their goals but need help achieving them.
