Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has announced the appointment of Anandji Prasad as Director (Technical/Project & Planning).
Before joining WCL, Prasad served as a Project Advisor in the Ministry of Coal (MoC) since July 2021. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in formulating key policies, schemes, and initiatives in the coal and energy sector, contributing significantly to policy interventions.
A Graduate of Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, Prasad holds a First Class Coal Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (1994). With nearly 35 years of professional experience, he is a seasoned expert in the coal and energy sectors. He also possesses postgraduate diplomas in Management and Computer Applications and earned a law degree from Ranchi University in 2010.
Prasad began his career in 1989 as an executive trainee with Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), a Coal India Limited (CIL) subsidiary. Over the years, he gained extensive expertise in planning, designing coal and metal mines, and coal mine operations and management.
Known for driving innovation, Prasad introduced continuous miner technology in underground mines and contributed to the formulation of model Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) documents for CIL mines. He also spearheaded initiatives like digital transformation in seven opencast mines of CIL, reopening discontinued mines, and achieving NABL accreditation for CMPDIL’s mining laboratory.
His rich experience and vision are expected to significantly enhance WCL’s technical and project planning capabilities.
