New Delhi: In a significant step towards advancing green energy technologies, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA). The MoU was signed between Anuj Singh, General Manager of NTPC REL, and R. Reddy, Chief Mechanical Engineer of DPA, in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, MLA Maltiben Maheshwari, and senior officials from both organizations.
The collaboration aims to promote green hydrogen mobility projects at Kandla Port, contributing to India’s decarbonization and clean energy transition goals. As part of the initiative, NGEL will establish a state-of-the-art green hydrogen fueling station at the port and deploy 11 hydrogen-powered buses for short-haul operations. These buses will replace traditional fossil fuel-based transportation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy security.
The project builds on NTPC’s track record in green hydrogen innovation. The company has successfully demonstrated a green hydrogen blending project in Surat, Gujarat, and launched hydrogen mobility initiatives in Leh, Ladakh, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
In addition, NTPC is actively developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and is on track to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, integrating cutting-edge energy storage solutions.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal hailed the initiative as pivotal in realizing India’s green energy aspirations. This collaboration underscores NTPC’s commitment to sustainability and strengthens its position as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
