New Delhi: Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha has officially taken over as Director (Operations) of Hindustan Copper Ltd. (HCL), following an order issued by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
With over 25 years of experience at NMDC Ltd., Dr. Sinha played a key role in mine planning, production, lease acquisition, and safety management. Before joining HCL, he was Head of Mine Planning and Chief of the Internal Safety Organization at NMDC. His contributions include introducing SME Explosives, implementing Mine Planning Software (Surpac, MineSched, Whittle), and optimizing drilling and blasting operations.
Sinha has worked on several critical projects, including Bailadila Deposit-14, Deposit 11C, Deposit 10/11A, and Donimalai Iron Ore Mine. He was instrumental in developing NMDC’s Vision Plan for 100 MTPA iron ore production by 2030 and prepared Techno-Economic Feasibility Reports worth Rs. 27,000 crore. He also contributed to the Panna Diamond Mining Project, Asia’s only mechanized diamond mine.
Sinha is a Mining Engineer from Nagpur University, a First Class Mines Manager under MMR 1961, and holds an MBA (HR) from IGNOU. In 2018, he completed his PhD in Mining Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, focusing on planning strategies to enhance mine life and Net Present Value (NPV) for heterogeneous iron ore deposits. His research addressed the growing mineral shortage and the importance of meticulous mine planning.
Dr. Sinha has been at the forefront of digital initiatives, including ERP implementation and Fleet Management Systems. He developed the ‘License to Operate’ software for legal compliance tracking. Internationally, he has presented case studies at the World Mining Congress in Kazakhstan (2018) and Brisbane (2023). Additionally, he represented NMDC at PDAC 2023 in Canada.
With his vast expertise, Dr. Sinha is expected to drive operational excellence and innovation at Hindustan Copper Ltd., further strengthening India’s mining sector.
