Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has set a target to install eight lakh rooftop solar plants by March 2027 under the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.
For the current financial year, the state aims to complete 2.65 lakh installations, with monthly goals set at 22,000 units, roughly 300 installations per district.
Implementation Strategy and Monitoring
According to an official statement, the state has decentralised the implementation of the project, assigning targets at multiple administrative levels, districts, DISCOMs, municipal corporations, and municipalities. The progress is being monitored in real time through integration with the Chief Minister’s dashboard.
The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is leading the initiative, which began in February 2024. As of April 2025, the state has completed over one lakh rooftop solar installations, averaging more than 11,000 per month and about 500 per day.
Vendor Onboarding and Training
Out of the 10.73 lakh applications received through the scheme’s official portal till March 2025, the state is currently finalising vendor listings. Around 2,500 vendors have been empanelled so far, while 1,800 have completed formal training to facilitate the rollout.
Training programmes are being conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development, under the Ministry of Skill Development, and UPNEDA. The focus is on equipping vendors with technical and operational know-how to handle the expected volume of installations.
To strengthen vendor participation, the state has enabled access to bank loans and credit guarantee schemes. These measures aim to address capital constraints and ensure timely project delivery.
