New Delhi: The Centre has approved the development of a new expressway between Noida and Aligarh, aimed at enhancing road connectivity and infrastructure in western Uttar Pradesh.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) will implement the project, which involves acquiring over 13,300 acres of land across 41 villages, 36 in Greater Noida and five in Aligarh.
Land Acquisition Without Intermediaries
According to officials, land acquisition will be carried out directly from farmers, without involving middlemen. Payments will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and accountability. This mechanism is intended to prevent delays and corruption, a concern in past infrastructure projects.
YEIDA officials stated that the project was formally discussed during a meeting held on 28 March. The aim is to avoid procedural bottlenecks and ensure timely compensation to landowners, many of whom have expressed concern over fair valuation in previous acquisitions.
Budget and Development Plan
The Noida-Aligarh expressway has been allocated a total budget of Rs 5,900 crore. Of this, Rs 5,000 crore will be used for land acquisition and Rs 900 crore for road construction and supporting infrastructure. The proposed route is expected to run parallel to the existing Yamuna Expressway, creating space for a new industrial and logistics corridor.
Potential Economic Impact
Officials believe the corridor will create opportunities for small businesses, warehousing units and logistics hubs. The project is also expected to support job creation in surrounding areas. In addition to economic activity, state authorities anticipate improvements in healthcare access, education infrastructure and public services in villages along the Noida-Aligarh expressway.
