New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed serious concern this week over a surge in cyber attacks following the recent terror incident in Pahalgam, revealing that over 10 crore such attacks have taken place since the strike.
According to reports, while addressing a meeting of ministers and senior officials, PM Modi emphasised the need for heightened vigilance across all government departments and called for prompt, decentralised responses instead of relying solely on the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
PM Modi’s remarks follow earlier advisories by the NIC, which had urged ministries and departments to step up their cybersecurity protocols.
However, it was also reported that in the council of ministers meeting, PM Modi also directed departments to concentrate on developmental efforts in aspirational districts and blocks. He advised officials to personally spend at least 24 hours in these regions to better understand local needs and challenges.
Additionally, he proposed that a portion of MGNREGS funds be allocated for water conservation projects, indicating a shift towards sustainable and impact-driven rural employment schemes.
Looking ahead to the next four years, PM Modi called for a strong focus on improving the quality of public infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and police stations, underscoring that they must meet world-class standards.
He highlighted public support during key moments like demonetisation, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the voluntary surrender of LPG subsidies as a testament to the people’s trust in governance when it delivers meaningful results.
Officials present at the meeting said PM Modi urged all ministries to make governance more outcome-oriented. He also shared a practice adopted within the PMO, where 32 officers were assigned to thoroughly review citizen grievances. Each officer read ten complaints in full, reinforcing the importance of addressing public feedback with seriousness and empathy.
“The underlying message was clear; grievances must not be brushed aside. They need to be understood fully and responded to sincerely,” an official said.
The meeting served as a high-level directive to align departmental goals with national security, rural development, quality governance, and citizen-centric service delivery.
