New Delhi: Nxtra by Airtel has signed a power-wheeling agreement with AMPIN Energy Transition to source 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid energy for its data centre operations.
The renewable power will be delivered through Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka. With this agreement, the total capacity sourced by Nxtra from AMPIN now exceeds 200 MW.
According to the companies, the new renewable capacity is expected to generate approximately 205,167 MWh of clean energy annually. The power will be delivered in two phases, enabling Nxtra to reduce its annual carbon emissions by around 149,156 tCO2e.
The agreement comes as part of Nxtra’s broader efforts to meet its Net Zero targets and Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments by integrating more green power into its operations. The company is actively working to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
AMPIN Energy Transition, which currently supplies solar energy to Nxtra facilities in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, will expand its renewable energy delivery footprint to 11 additional states through this partnership.
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, CEO of AMPIN, noted that combining inter-state and intra-state models can help companies move toward nearly full renewable energy integration.
The collaboration is in line with India’s ongoing push for large-scale renewable energy adoption across sectors. Nxtra’s use of captive hybrid power projects also reflects a trend among data centre operators to shift from fossil-based power sources to cleaner alternatives, in line with national decarbonisation goals.
