Palghar: SBI Foundation has collaborated with Shri Chaitanya Health & Care Trust (Govardhan Rural Development) for two flagship projects—SBI Gram Seva and SBI Gram Saksham.
These projects aim to improve water conservation and overall rural development in the Palgarh district of Maharashtra.
Gram Saksham: Securing Water for Farming
Water scarcity has long been a critical barrier in Vikramgad village of the district. The SBI Gram Saksham initiative aims to tackle this issue with over 30 farm ponds and 300 small well pits, conserving an estimated 150 million liters of water each year.
Gram Seva: Multi-Sector Development
Launched in October 2022, the SBI Gram Seva Project has reached over 640 households across five villages—Dolhari Kh., Satkor, Devpur, Ghatalpada, and Anandpur.
At its core are Gram Seva Kendras, which drive initiatives in education, healthcare, agriculture, women’s empowerment, infrastructure, and the environment.
Digital classrooms now reach over 250 students, while healthcare access has improved through a mobile medical van and regular health camps. More than 100 farmers are trained in organic farming and supported with seeds, input centers, and jasmine nurseries.
The program has also boosted women’s income, with over 80 engaged in tailoring and micro-enterprises. Infrastructure upgrades include drinking water units, toilet renovations, solar streetlights, waste management vehicles, and the planting of 3,000 trees.
A Scalable Model
SBI Foundation leaders describe these projects not as charity but as long-term investments in rural India’s future. The partnership demonstrates how grassroots knowledge and institutional support can combine to create scalable, sustainable impact.
