New Delhi: India’s push to make artificial intelligence accessible and inclusive is beginning to show strong results, with the country emerging as one of the world’s leading centres for AI talent and innovation.
The national AI strategy, inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of democratizing technology, focuses on solving India-specific challenges while generating new employment opportunities across sectors, said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
AI-related jobs are expanding rapidly in fields such as information technology, manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and public governance. Recognising this trend, the Government of India has aligned its policies and programmes to strengthen the country’s AI workforce. Global studies reflect this momentum.
The Stanford AI Index Report 2025 notes that India leads the world in AI hiring growth, ranks among the top nations in AI skill penetration, and has witnessed a more than threefold rise in AI talent concentration since 2016.
India also features among the top three countries in Stanford University’s Global AI Vibrancy rankings. Industry projections suggest the country’s AI talent pool will more than double by 2027. In 2024, India was the second-largest contributor to global AI projects on GitHub, highlighting the strength of its developer ecosystem.
Government initiatives such as IndiaAI FutureSkills, FutureSkills PRIME, the iGOT Karmayogi platform and the National Career Service are supporting large-scale skilling, research and workforce development. A free foundational course, “YUVA AI for ALL,” has also been launched to promote basic AI literacy.
