New Delhi, May 26 (APAC Media): India and the United States of America today signed a landmark bilateral framework memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on securing and diversifying the supply chains of critical minerals and rare earth elements.Â
The MoU was signed during the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Â
Signed by the Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the agreement marks a huge milestone in the strategic partnership between the two nations.
It aims to counter over-reliance on single-source monopolies like China and ensure that the foundational elements required for advanced technology and energy are available within trusted networks.
Highlighting the significance of the agreement, Jaishankar said, “The framework aims to deepen our cooperation across the entire critical minerals and rare earths supply chain, including mining, processing, recycling, and related investments. It will help us in financing and the effective management of critical minerals.â€
“This agreement builds upon the foundational groundwork laid in February 2026 during high-level meetings in Washington, D.C., where a Forum on Resource Geostrategic Engagement (FORGE) was launched,†shared US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the MoU signing ceremony.Â
Rubio added that the “agreement is a tangible example of the strategic partnership between the US and India.â€
Through this framework, India and the United States will engage in international efforts to protect sensitive supply chains from coercive market practices and reduce collective vulnerability to single-source monopolies.
