New Delhi, June 5 (APAC Media): Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta has assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC).
A 1988-batch IAS officer, Gupta retired from service on May 31, 2026, after a distinguished administrative career.Â
He took oath of office on Wednesday, with Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond administering the oath.
Gupta succeeds former Punjab IAS officer Vishwajit Khanna, who demitted office upon attaining retirement on April 22.
As per the appointment terms, Gupta will serve as Chairperson of the Commission for a period of five years or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
Key Role in Punjab’s Power Sector
The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission is the statutory authority responsible for regulating the state’s electricity sector. The Commission oversees tariff determination, power distribution and transmission, approval of power purchase agreements, and implementation of provisions under the Electricity Act, 2003.
In addition, PSERC adjudicates disputes involving utilities and consumers while monitoring the functioning of power companies operating across Punjab.
His extensive administrative experience is expected to strengthen regulatory oversight and policy implementation in Punjab’s power sector.
