New Delhi, July 24 (APAC Media): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major cleanliness and infrastructure push for Pankha Road. The West Delhi stretch will get its open drain covered. Alongside this, the Delhi government has allocated an additional Rs 2,300 crore to strengthen citywide waste management.
During an on-ground inspection, CM Gupta said Pankha Road had suffered years of neglect due to garbage accumulation and poor civic upkeep. She announced that the road’s drain will be covered, its central verge upgraded, and overall infrastructure improved, addressing long-pending demands from local residents.
Rs 2,300 Crore Allocated for Waste Management
The additional funds have been allocated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to modernise waste management systems, expand mechanical cleaning resources, and improve garbage collection infrastructure. CM Gupta noted that civic bodies had earlier faced shortages of funds and collection vehicles, a gap the government is now working to close.
The processing capacity is set to receive a significant increase.
The chief minister said Delhi generates around 14,000 metric tonnes of waste daily, while earlier processing capacity stood at just 6,000 metric tonnes. To bridge this gap, additional processing machines have been installed at landfill sites, and new waste-to-energy facilities are under development. She added that waste-to-energy plants with a combined capacity of 15,000 metric tonnes per day are planned, which would gradually help eliminate Delhi’s growing garbage mountains once operational.
Hands-On Governance on Display
Gupta pointed to her personal, on-ground review of Pankha Road as a marker of hands-on governance, saying the administration is directly monitoring civic issues rather than relying solely on official reports. The Pankha Road plan, she said, is part of a broader effort to strengthen sanitation, waste management, and urban infrastructure across the capital.
