AMARAVATI: Setting the focus on keeping the cities and towns clean, commissioner and director of municipal administration (CDMA) P Koteswara Rao made a surprise inspection in Jaggaiahpet town of NTR district on Thursday.
Rao, who served as Kurnool district collector till recently, assumed charge as CDMA a few days ago. He took stock of the civic grievances across the urban local bodies with the commissioners and senior officials and asked them to go around the towns and cities to inspect the work of the field level staff. He observed that the presence of the commissioners in the field would make the ward level staff to be in the streets right in the early hours and promptly attend their duties.
He went around the oldest irrigation drain passing through the town and interacted with the locals.
Expressing serious displeasure at the municipal officials for not taking up the silt removal work for long despite repeated complaints by the locals, CDMA directed the commissioner to press the JCBs into work on the spot. He made the machines start drain cleaning work by staying near the drain for over two hours.
Locals of Rangu Bazar area told the CDMA that the drain was located right backside to the Community Health Centre (CHC) and leaving it stagnated for several years resulted in mosquito menace. They said that the civic officials completely left their complaints to the deaf ears.
He said that the government’s top priority was to keep state’s cities and towns clean.
