New Delhi: Apple is planning to increase its domestic component manufacturing in India. In a meeting with top finance ministry officials, the company shared the details of the same, according to a news source that cited a senior government official.
“There was a meeting in July in which Apple made a presentation. They maintained that the public authority should know about its arrangements. Apple is keen on expanding its homegrown part base, and is effectively checking it out. The gathering zeroed in on better comprehension of production network and more prominent indigenization. The overall growth of the smartphone manufacturing industry was also reviewed,” the officer said.
He also added that the government is not receptive to the idea of tax incentives.
The senior Apple leadership met the top officials of the Finance Ministry last month. They gave a presentation on the current manufacturing, exports, supply chain as well as the company’s participation in the nation’s electronics sector.
“Apple wants to indigenize faster. They are eager to increase the domestic component manufacturing base in India and are actively looking at it”, the official said, even as the meeting came at a time when the company is looking at India as a key manufacturing hub in order to diversify the manufacturing abilities beyond China.
The company manufactures 7% of its iPhones in India by expanding partners. In 2017, Apple began fabricating iPhones in the country. Apple has, from that point forward, worked with providers to assemble iPhone models as well as to deliver a rising number of parts. On April 18, Apple additionally opened its most memorable Indian store in Mumbai followed by one more in the country’s capital two days after the fact.
