New Delhi: Pankaj Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (RD&GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti, chaired a meeting recently, where he examined the progress/ status of the fulfilment of activities currently being administered by the Department. The meeting’s objective was to ensure the success of the nationwide Swachhata He Seva (SHS), 2023 campaign.
An impressive 161 activities/ programs have been shouldered under the campaign by the Department till date, with a participation of 7232 people. Included in the record is the participation of 2066 in Shramdaan and 2481 in mass mobilisation, which contributed to 14,178 man hours for the SHS campaign.
Through its organisations, the Department of Water Resources, RD&GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti developed a date-wise Action Plan that focused on cleanliness drives through the regional or field offices of each of the Organisations under the department. This came as a part of the SHS campaign themed ‘Garbage Free India’, following a governmental approach, with the objective of significantly contributing towards attaining the objectives of the campaign.
A press release cited the following activities selected by the department, that fall in line with the theme of the campaign:
- Cleaning of Ghats and adjacent areas being undertaken by National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD);
- Cleaning of Dams and surrounding areas (including floating waste) being undertaken by Central Water Commission (CWC) in collaboration with State Governments;
- Cleaning of River Banks near the head offices of various Organisations of the Department.
