Patna: APAC News Network’s initiative towards promoting sustainable management of energy recently saw its fruition during its Sustainable Energy Management Conclave- Bihar Edition. Sanjeev Hans IAS, Principal Secretary- Energy and PHE & Chairman Cum Managing Director, BSPHCL, Government of Bihar was the chief guest of this event.
His insight on sustainable energy management and the initiative taken by the Government of Bihar shone light on the different ways the state is enabling its people, as well as the entire nation, to adopt sustainable ways of energy management and development to help the environment. Talking about this, he stated the State of Bihar is all set to achieve the target of 1000 MW of solar energy generation. This event initiative was supported by Schneider Electric.
Vision of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG – 2030)
“One fourth of the pollution is caused by power systems. That is why talking about sustainable development or sustainable energy transition is important,” says IAS Sumit Hans. The SDG-2030 aims the following:
- Ensure that people have access to reliable, modern and affordable energy services by improving operational efficiency and ensuring financial sustainability.
- Greatly increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by one gigawatt through corroboration and partnerships with different entities.
- Double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency by unearthing leakages, plugging loopholes (which includes improving metering and billing) and taking corrective and preventive actions (that will be real time data driven).
- Enhance cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy research and technology, including efficiency and promote investment in energy infrastructure.
- Expand infrastructure and upgrade technology to supply more and more sustainable energy services.
Roadmap for sustainability
Sanjeev Hans cites that India aims to reach net zero by 2070 and breaks down his roadmap to attain maximum sustainability into three parts:
- Team Spirit: Providing continuous education programs for the enrichment of the knowledge that officers have, and to provide incentive programs for young organisations for their healthy growth.
- Technology: Improving internal process efficiencies and policy making through the capitalisation of the value of processed data along with rural consumers, and creating profit centres with strategic partnerships and technology sharing.
- Trust of Consumer and Government: Building trust amongst consumers through affordable and quality services, and completing projects timely for transparency.
Sanjeev Hans and his team believe there are multiple projects that depend on technology, and consumers also have to make sure that they try and understand how they can take advantage of technology.
