New Delhi: Secretary (Telecom), Dr Neeraj Mittal, virtually launched an “Experimental Licence module for 100 5G Labs” during a workshop at IIT Madras. The initiative aims to simplify the licensing process for 5G Labs in academic institutions across India, allowing smoother operations and enabling innovation in the 5G domain.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has presented ‘100 5G Use Case Labs’ to educational institutions across India to enhance skills and involvement in 5G technologies among students and startups.
The new DoT mechanism lets applicants easily obtain the experimental license through the National Single Window System (NSWS) portal. It comes with pre-filled technical details, speeding up the process and making it simpler. With only basic information needed, it’s now more accessible to institutions as it provides instantaneous licensing. This initiative is expected to promote innovation and making 5G technology more accessible to educational institutions and startups.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a simplified process for issuing the experimental license titled ‘Experimental License for 100 5G Labs’ on the NSWS Portal.
The new process offers several key features:
- Efficiency: It automates the application process by pre-filling technical specifications and schematic details, saving time and effort.
- Instantaneous Licensing: Applicants can now quickly get the experimental license by using “Self-declaration Mode” and instantly download it, ensuring quick start of operations.
- Simplified Application: The application process requires only basic information such as institute address, authorised personnel, and a nominal fee of Rs. 5000, making it easier for more institutions to apply.
- Support for Innovation: This initiative aims to strongly support innovation, develop skills, and make 5G technology accessible to educational institutions and startups, empowering them to explore its potential for transformative applications.
