New Delhi: Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi has been selected to become the next Chief of the Naval Staff. He is taking charge from Admiral R Hari Kumar, who is retiring. Tripathi is currently the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and will start his new position on April 30, 2024, according to an official statement from the defence ministry.
Born on May 15, 1964, Tripathi attended Sainik School Rewa and National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. He underwent extensive training, including courses at the Naval War College, Goa, and the Naval War College USA.
Tripathi joined the Indian Navy’s executive branch on July 1, 1985, with a specialisation in communication and electronic warfare. He has served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command and commanding INS Vinash. Tripathy also served as the Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, and Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala.
The new Chief of the Indian Navy has also been honoured with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Nau Sena Medal (NM).
