New Delhi: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Department of School Education, Ministry of Education, and the National Book Trust to develop a framework for a digital library platform – Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya. The partnership will be backed by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
The Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya will offer children and adolescents over 1,000 non-academic books by more than 40 publishers in 22 languages, apart from English. The aim is to develop a long-lasting inclination towards reading by offering high-quality books that are readily available with respect to geographies, languages, genres, and levels. It will also provide divide-independent accessibility.
The books will belong to genres like mystery, humour, literature and fiction, classics, non-fiction and self-help, history, biographies, comics, picture books, science, poetry, etc, and they will be catalogued into four age groups, 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years, according to the National Education Policy 2020. It will be available for download on both Android and iOS.
The event saw the presence of the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, K. Sanjay Murthy; Secretary of the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Sanjay Kumar; Joint Secretary, Archana Sharma Awasthi and several senior officials of the Ministry.
