New Delhi: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is set to introduce a new binary accreditation system for higher education institutions in India, starting September 2024. This system will classify colleges and universities as either accredited or not accredited, replacing the existing multi-tiered grading system.
NAAC officials stated that the new system aims to simplify the accreditation process, making it more transparent and efficient. The binary approach is expected to streamline the assessment of educational standards and enhance the credibility of accreditation.
This was declared at a regional consultative workshop on binary accreditation for the eastern region, which was held at Utkal University, by Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, the head of the NAAC executive committee. The Ministry of Education has accepted the Radhakrishnan Committee on Transformative Reforms in Accreditation, which has made several important suggestions aimed at achieving notable gains in educational quality. One of these, according to Sahasrabudhe, is the binary accreditation framework.
