New Delhi: Â The Ministry of Labour and Employment has asked platform aggregators to register their gig workers on the e-Shram portal to help them access various social security benefits. The move will help in maintaining an accurate registry of all the beneficiaries of social welfare schemes.
In order to streamline the process, the ministry has issued an advisory with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlining aggregator responsibilities, including registering workers and updating their data. Upon registration, workers will get a Universal Account Number (UAN), which will allow them access to key social security benefits. To help with the onboarding process, a toll-free helpline has been set up to provide information and resolve any technical issues encountered by workers during the registration process.
The e-Shram portal serves as a nationwide database of unorganized workers, designed to provide them with access to social security and welfare schemes.
